About Us

The National Plantation Walking Horse Association was formed in 1979 to promote the registration, breeding, exhibiting, welfare, and protection of the Plantation Walking Horse in California. It is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in California, and was the first to hold a pleasure horse futurity. Plantation Walking Horses are more then “one trick ponies”. They can participate in just about any equestrian discipline, from trail riding to barrel racing to jumping and dressage in short, they can do everything that any other horse can do but without the bounce!

NPWHA encourages participation in different disciplines by offering reward programs, in Versatility and our year-end High Point awards. Our show schedule currently includes five shows that are geared towards giving our members the opportunity to accrue points towards these programs, as well as showing off their beautiful horses.
